Aloo Beans

I have shared a recipe for Aloo Beans earlier, but this one is a little different. It’s not completely dry as it has tomatoes. I have prepared it in a pressure cooker, you even use a pan or a kadai with a lid.

Time: Preparation – 10 mins, Cooking – 20 mins, Total – 30 mins

Servings: 2-3


  1. Green Beans – 1 1/2 cups (chopped, it’s approx 300 grams)
  2. Potatoes (Aloo) – 2 medium (cut in cubes)
  3. Onion – 1 small (finely chopped)
  4. Tomato – 1 medium (puree)
  5. Green Chilli – 1 (puree along with tomato)
  6. Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tbsp
  7. Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
  8. Asafoetida – 1/5 tsp
  9. Turmeric Powder – 1/3 tsp
  10. Red Chilli Powder – 1/3 tsp
  11. Garam Msala Powder – 1/3 tsp
  12. Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
  13. Oil – 2 tbsp
  14. Water – 1/2 cup
  15. Salt to taste

PS: 1 Cup = 250 ML

How to make Aloo Beans:

  1. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida. Let it splutter
  2. Add ginger garlic paste. Saute
  3. Add onions. Saute till translucent
  4. Add tomato and green chilli puree. Saute
  5. Add spices – turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and coriander powder
  6. Cook till oil starts to separate
  7. Add potatoes and beans. Mix well
  8. Add salt and water. Mix well
  9. Close the lid and let the first whistle blow on a high flame. Then turn the flame to low and let two more whistles blow. Turn off the flame and do not release the pressure
  10. Once pressure has settle down open the lid and mix a little
  11. Your Aloo Beans is ready. Serve hot with Phulkas.
