Matar Paneer

Matar Paneer is a gravy dish prepared with green peas and paneer (Indian cottage cheese), the combination is enticing. It can be enjoyed with a phulka, paratha or rice

Ingredients:

  1. Paneer (Indian cottage cheese) – 200 grams (cut into cubes)
  2. Boiled Green Peas – 1/2 cup 
  3. Onion – 1 medium (roughly chopped)
  4. Tomato – 2 large (roughly chopped)
  5. Green Chilli – 2 (roughly chopped)
  6. Garlic – 2 cloves (roughly chopped)
  7. Ginger – 1/2 inch (julienned)
  8. Cashew – 5
  9. Black Cardamom – 1
  10. Bay Leaf – 1
  11. Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
  12. Red Chilli Powder – 1/2 tsp
  13. Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
  14. Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
  15. Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 tsp
  16. Kasuri Methi – 1 tsp
  17. Cream – 2 tbsp
  18. Coriander Leaves for garnishing
  19. Water – 1 cup
  20. Oil – 3 tbsp
  21. Salt to taste.

PS: 1 Cup = 250 ML.

How to make Matar Paneer:

  1. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan or a kadai. Add onions and garlic, saute until tender
  2. Add tomatoes, green chillies and cashews. Saute until soft, turn off the flame and let it cool down. Add it to a grinding jar and blend to a smooth paste, keep aside
  3. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan or a kadai. Add black cardamom and bay leaf, saute until fragrant
  4. Add cumin seeds and let it splutter
  5. Add the paste, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder. Cook until oil separates
  6. Add boiled green peas and julienned ginger. Mix and add water, bring it to boil
  7. Add crushed kasuri methi, paneer, garam masala powder and salt. Mix and cook for 3-4 mins on medium flame
  8. Garnish with some coriander leaves and your Matar Paneer is ready. Serve hot with your favorite bread or rice.
