Pita Bread Pockets are so famous worldwide, stuff them with your favorite filling and relish!!!
Many people think these might be difficult to make, but when I recently tried they came out perfect. Better than the store-bought, for me at least. I have prepared these with whole wheat flour, you can also try them with all-purpose flour. Hope you try this recipe and enjoy these too!!!

Time: Preparation – 1 hour 25 mins, Baking – 5 mins, Total – 1.5 hours
Servings: Makes 5 pita breads
- Whole Wheat Flour – 2 cups
- Dry Active Yeast – 1/2 tbsp
- Sugar – 1/2 tsp
- Warm Water – 1 cup
- Olive Oil – 2 tbsp
- Salt to taste.
PS: 1 Cup = 250 ML.
How to make Whole Wheat Pita Bread:
- Take a small bowl. Add yeast, 1/8 cup warm water and sugar. Mix and let sit for 5 mins
- Take a big mixing bowl. Add flour, olive oil and salt. Mix
- Make a well in the centre. Add yeast mixture. Start kneading and add 3/4 cup water in portions. Knead until the dough comes together and it’s smooth. Grease the dough with some oil, cover and let rise for an hour
- After an hour punch the dough to release all the air. Let the dough sit for 5 minutes
- Pre-heat the oven to 475 degrees fahrenheit or 250 degree celsius
- Divide the dough into 5 equal portions. Roll each dough ball into a round flat bread using as few strokes as possible, around 8 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch thick
- Place the bread on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake for 5 minutes or until it puff up like a pillow. Do not over bake them. Your Pita Bread is ready
- Cut the bread in halves and fill it with your favorite stuffing!!!
- Store them, while they’re still warm in an airtight container
- You can reheat the pita bread in oven at 350°F oven or in the microwave.
