Falafel

Enjoy these classic, crispy and healthy falafels with hummus or in a salad.

Also try: Semolina Cutlets, Dahi ke Kebab or Hara Bhara Kebab.

Course: Starters or Main Course

Cuisine: Mediterranean 

Time: Preparation – 20 mins, Air Frying – 15 mins, Total – 35 mins.

Servings: makes 12-15 medium size falafels

Ingredients:

  1. Chickpea – 1 cup (soak over night or for 8 hours, it will be 3 cups once soaked) 
  2. Onion – 1 small-medium (roughly chopped)
  3. Garlic – 4 cloves 
  4. Coriander Leaves – 1 cup (roughly chopped)
  5. Green Chilli – 2 
  6. Cumin Powder – 1 tsp
  7. Ground Black Pepper – 1/2 tsp
  8. Gram Flour – 1/4 cup
  9. Baking Soda – 1/2 tsp
  10. Sesame Seeds to sprinkle on top
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Oil for frying.

PS: 1 Cup = 250 ML.

  1. Thoroughly rinse soaked chickpeas, drain access water and keep aside
  2. Take a food processor and add soaked chickpeas along with onion, garlic, coriander leaves and green chilli. Blend to make a slightly coarse mix
  3. Transfer it to a mixing bowl. Add cumin powder, ground pepper, gram flour, baking soda and salt. Mix well
  4. Make medium size balls from the mixture, sprinkle some sesame seeds on top and keep aside
  5. Choose from the following to cook the falafels, I have used the air frying method
    • Air Fry – Place the falafel in the basket of the air fryer and brush them with some oil. Cook on 400 F for 12-15 mins or until golden and crisp
    • Deep fry – Heat oil in a deep vessel and deep fry the kebabs until golden brown
  6. Your Falafels are ready. Relish with some hummus and enjoy!
