Black Bean Burger with Avocado Mayo

Sharing recipe of this healthy-ish Black Bean Burger today with you all. Replaced a few ingredients in the patties e.g., bread crumbs with ground oats and regular mayo with Avocado Mayo. Recipe for Avocado Mayo is also shared below, you can use this mayo as a spread over toast, etc. Hope you enjoy this burger as much as I did!!!

Tips:

  • Patties can be grilled, pan-fried or shallow-fried
  • Leftover Avocado Mayo can be used a spread over toast, etc. It’ll remain good in refrigerator for upto 2 days.

Servings: makes 4 burgers.

Ingredients:

For Burger:

    1. Burger Buns (of your choice) – 4
    2. Boiled Black Beans – 1.5 cups
    3. Finely Chopped Capsicum – 1/2 cup
    4. Finely Chopped Onion – 1/2 cup
    5. Finely Chopped Green Chili – 1
    6. Grated Garlic – 1 clove
    7. Ground Oats – 1/2 cup
    8. Southwest-Chipotle Seasoning – 1 tsp
    9. Ground Pepper – 1/4 tsp
    10. Cumin Powder – 1 tsp
    11. Sliced Tomato and Onion, and Lettuce Leaves as needed
    12. Oil to cook the patties
    13. Butter to toast the buns
    14. Salt to taste.

For Avocado Mayo:

    1. Mashed Avocado – 1/2 cup
    2. Chopped Garlic – 1 clove
    3. Avocado Oil or Olive Oil – 2 tsp
    4. Lemon Juice – 2 tsp
    5. White or Apple Cider Vinegar – 1 tsp
    6. Salt to taste
    7. Water – 1-2 tbsp or as needed to adjust the consistency.

PS: 1 Cup = 250 ML.

How to make Black Bean Burger with Avocado Mayo:

  1. Take a blending jar and add all the ingredients of avocado mayo except water. Blend until smooth, add water as needed to adjust the consistency. Avocado Mayo is ready, keep aside in refrigerator until you make the patties. This mayo will remain good for upto 2 days in refrigerator
  2. Take a mixing bowl. Add boiled black beans and mash them a little
  3. Add oats, garlic, onion, capsicum, green chili, cumin powder, southwest-chipotle seasoning, ground pepper and salt. Mix well and mash a little more
  4. Now make 4 round patties from the mix and keep aside for 10-15 mins
  5. Heat a skillet and add some oil. Place the patties, cook from both the sides until brown and crisp. You can also grill them 
  6. Toast the buns in butter
  7. Place the bottom of the burger bun on a flat surface, put some lettuce leaves, top it with sliced tomato and onion, place the patty, spread the avocado mayo and finally top with top of the burger bun
  8. Your Black Bean Burger with Avocado Mayo is ready, enjoy!!!
