Desi Burger

This is a version of Indian street style burger. We make a patty out of boiled potatoes with some spices, shallow or deep dry it and then slide it between the buns along with some tangy chutneys.

Time: Preparation – 15 mins, Refrigeration – 30 mins, Cooking – 15 mins, Total – 1 hour

Servings: makes 2 burgers


  1. Burger Buns – 2
  2. Boiled Potato – 2 medium (grated)
  3. Onion – 1 small (sliced)
  4. Tomato – 1 medium (sliced)
  5. Red Chilli Powder – 1/2 tsp
  6. Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
  7. Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 tsp
  8. Ground Black Pepper – 1/2 tsp
  9. Corn Flour (or All-Purpose Flour) – 1 tbsp
  10. Bread Crumbs – to coat the patties
  11. Oil – to shallow fry the patties
  12. Butter – to toast the buns
  13. Water – 1/4 cup
  14. Tamarind Chutney – as needed (recipe here)
  15. Mint Coriander Chutney – as needed (recipe here)
  16. Salt to taste.

PS: 1 Cup = 250 ML

How to make Desi Burger:

  1. Take a mixing bowl. Add grated potatoes, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder, ground black pepper and salt. Mix well
  2. Make two round patties out of the potato masala. Same diameter as your buns. Keep aside
  3. Take another mixing bowl. Add corn flour (or all-purpose flour) and water. Mix to make a thin slurry. Keep aside
  4. Take the bread crumbs on a plate for the coating
  5. Take the aloo patty and first dip it in the slurry then coat it with the bread crumbs. Similarly do for the other. Now refrigerate the prepared patties for 30 mins
  6. Heat oil in a pan and shallow fry all the patties. Keep aside
  7. Toast the buns in butter. Keep aside
  8. Now take the toasted bottom bun and spread some tamarind chutney and mint-coriander chutney. Place the aloo patty, some onions & tomatoes and lastly the top bun
  9. Your Desi Burger is ready. Serve hot along with some fries.
