Besan Cheela Rolls

I have shared quite a few recipes for different kinds of cheela (Indian pancakes) like Besan Cheela, Multi-grain Cheela, Moong Dal Cheela, etc. To prepare this recipe we cook plain besan cheelas and stuff them with a salad kind of filling.

Time: Preparation – 15 Mins, Cooking –  15 Mins, Total – 30 Mins

Ingredients:

  1. Besan (Gram flour) – 1 cup
  2. Onion – 1 small (finely chopped)
  3. Tomatoes – 1 medium (seeded and finely chopped)
  4. Cucumber – 1 (finely chopped)
  5. Paneer (Cottage Cheese) – 1/3 cup (cut in very small cubes)
  6. Coriander Leaves – 2 tbsp
  7. Green Chilli – 1 (seeded and finely chopped)
  8. Carom Seeds –  1/2 tsp
  9. Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
  10. Red Chilli Powder – 1/4 tsp
  11. Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 tsp
  12. Chat Masala Powder – 1 tsp
  13. Black Pepper Powder – 1/4 tsp
  14. Black Salt – to taste
  15. Lemon Juice – 1 tbsp
  16. Water – 3/4 -1 cup water
  17. Green Chutney – as required (recipe here)
  18. Ketchup – as required
  19. Oil – for cooking
  20. Salt to taste

PS: 1 Cup = 250 ML

How to make Beasn Cheela Rolls:

  1. Take a bowl. Add onions, tomatoes, cucumber, paneer, 1 tbsp coriander leaves, chat masala powder, black pepper powder, lemon juice and black salt. Mix well. Keep aside the stuffing
  2. Take besan in a bowl and add 1 tbsp coriander leaves, green chilli, carom seeds, coriander powder, garam masala powder, red chilli powder and salt. Mix well
  3. Add 1/2 cup water. Starting mixing it in one direction with a spoon or a wired whisk
  4. Add more water as required (it depends on the quality of the besan). Mix it till you get a smooth medium consistency batter
  5. Heat a non-stick pan or a tawa
  6. Pour a few drops of oil and turn the flame to low
  7. Pour a ladle full of batter and gently spread it to make a big circle. Make sure cheela doesn’t break. Turn the flame to medium
  8. Cook till the cheela turns light golden. Pour a few drops of oil then flip the side
  9. Cook the other side similarly. Besan Cheela is ready. Similarly cook rest of the cheelas and keep aside.
  10. Place cheela on a flat surface. Spread 1/2 tbsp green chutney and 1/2 tbsp ketchup, or as required
  11. Place desired quantity of stuffing in the center. Roll the cheela from both the sides. Cut in halves
  12. Your Besan Cheela Rolls are ready. Serve with your favorite chutney or sauce. Enjoy.
