Desi Falafel

Easy to make. Yummy in taste. Not made of Aloo!!!

Course: Snacks or Starters

Cuisine: Indian or Middle Eastern

Time: Preparation – 10 mins, Cooking – 15 mins, Total – 25 mins

Servings: 4-5


  1. Chick Peas (chole or white chana) – 1 cup (boiled)
  2. Onion – 1/3 cup (finely chopped)
  3. Coriander Leaves – 1 tbsp
  4. Lemon Juice – 1 tbsp
  5. Garlic – 1 tbsp (crushed)
  6. All purpose flour (maida) – 2 tbsp (you can use corn flour or wheat flour)
  7. Black Pepper powder – 1/2 tsp
  8. Red Chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
  9. Cumin powder – 1/2 tsp
  10. Olive oil – to deep fry (you can use refined oil)
  11. Salt to taste

PS: 1 Cup = 250 ML

How to make Desi Falafel:

  1. Take a mixing bowl. Add chickpeas and all-purpose flour. Mash them.
  2. Add spices – black pepper powder, red chilli powder, cumin powder and salt. Mix well
  3. Add onions, coriander leaves, garlic and lemon juice. Mix well
  4. Make small-sized patties
  5. Heat oil in a pan or kadai. Deep fry the patties
  6. Fry from both the sides till crispy
  7. Drain on a kitchen paper towel
  8. Your Desi Falafel is ready. Serve hot with chutney.
