Aloo Masala Sandwich

Aloo Masala Sandwich is a spicy and tangy version of regular Aloo Sandwich. You’ll need potatoes, onions, tomatoes and a few spices to prepare the stuffing. I have added dry mango powder (amchur) to have the tangy touch, you can also add lemon juice instead.

When you have the masala (stuffing) ready, then preparing sandwiches is just a matter of minutes.

Servings: makes 2 sandwiches


  1. Bread Slices – 4 (your choice of bread)
  2. Potato – 2 medium (boiled and mashed)
  3. Onion – 1/3 cup (finely chopped)
  4. Tomato – 1/3 cup (finely chopped)
  5. Green Chilli – 1 (finely chopped)
  6. Cumin Seeds – 1/2 tsp
  7. Turmeric Powder – 1/4 tsp
  8. Red Chilli Powder – 1/4 tsp
  9. Garam Masala Powder – 1/3 tsp
  10. Coriander Powder – 1 tsp
  11. Dry Mango Powder (Amchur) – 1/4 tsp
  12. Coriander Leaves – 2 tbsp (finely chopped)
  13. Oil or Butter – to shallow fry sandwiches + 1 tbsp oil
  14. Salt to taste.

PS: 1 Cup = 250 ML.

How to make Aloo Masala Sandwich:

  1. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let it splutter
  2. Add onions and green chillies. Saute till onions are translucent
  3. Add tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and coriander powder. Cook till oil starts to separate
  4. Add mashed potatoes and salt. Mix well and for cook 3-4 mins
  5. Add garam masala powder, dry mango powder and coriander leaves. Mix and cook for a minute
  6. Stuffing is ready. Turn off the flame. Keep aside and let it cool down a little bit
  7. Take a slice of bread and spread the desired amount of stuffing. Place the other slice on the top 
  8. Meanwhile heat a non-stick pan or a grill pan or a sandwich maker
  9. Place the sandwich on it and cook from both the sides with butter till it’s crisp and brown
  10. Aloo Masala Sandwich is ready. Serve hot with your favorite sauce, chutney or just ketchup.
