Matar Paneer

Matar Paneer is a gravy dish prepared with green peas and paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese), the combination is enticing. It is a popular Indian dish and can be easily seen on the restaurant menu serving North Indian food. It can be enjoyed with a phulka, paratha or with just rice

Servings: 2-3

Ingredients:

  1. Paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese) – 200 grams (cut into cubes)
  2. Green Peas – 1/2 cup (boiled)
  3. Onion – 1 medium (roughly chopped)
  4. Tomato – 2 large (roughly chopped)
  5. Green Chilli – 1 (roughly chopped)
  6. Garlic – 2 cloves
  7. Ginger – 1 inch
  8. Cashew – 6-8 (optional) (soaked in hot water for 15 mins)
  9. Black Cardamom – 1
  10. Cloves – 3
  11. Bay Leaf – 1
  12. Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
  13. Coriander Seeds – 1 tsp
  14. Red Chilli Powder – 1/2 tsp
  15. Turmeric Powder – 1/3 tsp
  16. Garam Masala Powder – 1/2 tsp
  17. Kasuri Methi – 1 tbsp
  18. Fresh Cream – 2-3 tbsp
  19. Coriander Leaves – for garnishing
  20. Water – 1 – 1.5 cups
  21. Oil – 3 tbsp
  22. Salt to taste.

PS: 1 Cup = 250 ML.

How to make Matar Paneer:

  1. Take a grinder jar. Add onions, tomatoes, green chillies, ginger, garlic, cashews, black cardamom, cloves, bay leaf, cumin seeds and coriander seeds
  2. Grind to make a fine paste. Keep aside
  3. Heat oil in a pan or a kadai. Add the paste and saute. Cook for 5 mins on medium flame
  4. Add red chilli powder and turmeric powder. Mix and cook till oil starts to separate
  5. Add 1 cup water (or as required, depends on the thickness you like). Bring it to boil
  6. Add boiled green peas and kasuri methi. Cook for 1-2 mins
  7. Add paneer, garam masala powder and salt. Mix and cook for 1-2 mins
  8. Add fresh cream. Mix and cook for another 1-2 mins. Turn off the flame
  9. Add coriander leaves and mix a little. Your Matar Paneer is ready
  10. Serve hot with phulkas, parathas or rice.
